FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does your office offer placement services?
Marylhurst Career Services Office and most university career services offices offers resources for a successful job search. These include: career development workshops, over 200 job postings per week, career classes (LRN270 and BUS431), professional development events, alumni mentoring program, internships, resume assistance and individual career coaching.
Will you find me an internship?
The Career Services Office coordinates most internships for the undergraduate and graduate programs. The exceptions are Art Therapy, Music Therapy and Interior Design. Employers contact the career services office to advertise internship opportunities and students may also develop their own internships with employers that they locate through their professional network. There are some employers who offer internships regularly to our students (Portland Impact, the MacDonald Center and Literary Arts are a few) but all internships require application, interview and selection process.
Do you offer career testing?
The community colleges have funding to offer a suite of career tests such as the Strong Campbell, Keirsey and the CIS. This university is able to provide the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for $15. We can refer you to career coaches that offer a more extensive testing package.
Can you write a resume for me?
Resume writing is a skill that can be learned many different ways but the Career Services Office can assist you in tailoring your resume to a specific job posting. Sample resumes and cover letters are featured on the Career Services pages of MyMarylhurst. We are now offering monthly resume workshops, please check our events page for time/dates.
Does it cost money for me to have a private career counseling session with you?
All career services are offered at no charge to students and are part of the student services here at the university.
Where are the job postings?
The job board is featured on MyMarylhurst under the Career Services pages. These postings are arranged by the type of job and are tailored to our degree programs. There are also links to larger, career specific national job boards.
What resources do you provide after I graduate?
The same career services are offered to you after you graduate and extend for as long as you need support and resources. Over 50% of the individuals that participate in the various services provided by the Career Services Office are alumni of Marylhurst University. We encourage involvement in our Marylhurst Mentor Program for both students and alumni as an extremely valuable professional resource and opportunity for networking.
Hello – Can you tell me how I can make an appointment for a private career counseling session? Thank you, Valerie Wicklund
Hi Valerie,
Are you a current Marylhurst student or alum?
Hi Valerie- I think you’ve managed to connect with our Career Services Director, Lynn, and have an appointment with her. Is that correct? If not, her email is lbrown@marylhurst.edu, and she’s the best person to talk with! -Kirsten
